Lára holds an LL.M. degree in Technology Law from UC Berkeley in the United States and prior to joining LEX in 2019, she worked at an international law firm in Luxembourg.

Lára Herborg, a licensed attorney before the district courts, joined LEX in February 2019.
Lára is one of Iceland’s foremost experts in information technology law, intellectual property law, and data protection. Lára holds an LL.M. degree in Technology Law from UC Berkeley in the United States and prior to joining LEX in 2019, she worked at an international law firm in Luxembourg.
Lára also has extensive experience in public procurement and contractor law, healthcare law, and administrative law. For many years, Lára has provided strategic guidance to a wide range of companies, municipalities, and public institutions.
Her extensive experience in IP/IT law encompasses guiding clients through complex strategic licensing and technology transactions Her expertise includes drafting and managing contracts for the development, distribution, and procurement of software systems, as well as overseeing numerous large-scale regulatory IT audits for both corporate and public sector clients. Lára specializes in information security, particularly in the transfer of personal data through cloud solutions. She also has a deep understanding of health technology, having supported many companies within this sector.
Lára is a prolific author and speaker, having published numerous articles and conducted workshops and lectures on network and information security, artificial intelligence, and data protection for both public and private sector audiences. She has also served as a DPO for government agencies, large enterprises, and innovative startups.
Lára is an adjunct at Reykjavík University, where she teaches courses on Technology and Computer Law, as well as FinTech Law. She is an alternate Board Member of the Data Protection Authority in Iceland. She serves as the Academic Editor of Fons Juris, Iceland’s leading legal book publisher, and is an active member of the Legislative Committee of the Icelandic Bar Association. Lára is a board member of LEX and a board member of GH IP.
